Performance Tip #12

No. It is not okay to ignore con sordino.

I guess this requires some explanation. Con Sordino is an Italian marking that means the musicians should use a mute on their instrument. Some “musicians” think it’s okay to ignore this marking and say they’ll just play more quietly.

What they fail to realize is that a mute is about texture note volume. So to ignore it is completely stupid. Other than that, I have no opinion on the subject.
